Giuseppe Quintarelli is a legendary estate located in the hills north of Verona in the heart of the Valpolicella appellation. It is regarded by many as the greatest of all Amarone producers and is known for its traditional deep, complex wines packaged with distinctive handwritten labels. The great man Quintarelli himself, known as il Maestro del Veneto, died in 2012 aged 84 but the winery remains family-owned and managed.

Vinification and Ageing:
Fully ripe crop, extreme reduction in yield, slight drying of the grapes, fermented in large wooden vats, then aged in wooden barrels for 10 years.

Tasting Notes: Dark ruby with brownish highlights. On the nose, sweet aromas of dark red fruits, damp forest floor and hints of noble winter truffle. On the palate, highly concentrated, punchy and with beautiful suppleness and finely granulated tannin. Its dense body and immense complexity opens up depth, aromatic diversity with each successive sip, and a finely sweet Amarone style to boot!  a serious, finesse-rich wine with a clear signature and terrific ageing potential.

Food Pairing: Dark meat, grilled of any kind, cheese well-matured
Serving Temperature: 18-20 °C

The Grape
Cab.Franc

Cabernet Franc is widely planted in Bordeaux and is the most important black grape grown in the Loire. In the Médoc it may constitute up to 15% of a typical vineyard - it is always blended with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot and is used to add bouquet and complexity to the wines. It is more widely used in St.Emilion where it adapts well to the cooler and moister clay soils - Cheval Blanc is the most famous Cabernet Franc wine in the world, with the final blend consisting of up to 65% of the grape.

Cabernet Franc thrives in the Loire where the cooler growing conditions serve to accentuate the grape`s herbaceous, grassy, lead pencil aromas. The best wines come from the tuffeaux limestone slopes of Chinon and Bourgeil where growers produce intense well-structured wines that possess excellent cellaring potential.
