CHATEAU DE FUISSE POUILLY FUISSE LE CLOS MONOPOLE 2019/2020
Country: France, Burgundy, Pouilly Fuisse
Grape Varieties: Chardonnay 100%
Since 2003, Antoine Vincent has led the excellence of his family business from success to success. He proves it again with this large-scale Pouilly Fuissé Le Clos!

After many years, Pouilly-Fuissé has finally been recognised with premiers crus. Château de Fuissé is delighted and proud that their superb monopole vineyard that sits just next to the historic château has been recognised with this classification. It is a 2.7-hectare vineyard, home to many old vines, some of which were planted as far back as 1929. Indeed, the youngest vines you’ll find here are from 1984. This is a truly great outing for Le Clos and a fittingly brilliant rendition for its premier cru debut.

R. Parker: "Is showing superbly, unfurling in the glass with aromas of honeycomb, mandarin, confit lemon and citrus zest that are deftly framed by a light touch of new oak. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, broad and satiny, with a deep and multidimensional core, lively acids and a long, saline finish. 94/100"

Tasting Notes: The opulent yet refined wine demonstrates its great maturity. Let yourself be seduced by its delicate woody notes, hints of orange zest and that delicious hazelnut finish!

Food Pairing: For even greater drinking pleasure, we recommend scallops à la Provencale or a fine slice of Beaufort... A real treat for the palate!

The Grape
Chardonnay
Chardonnay is the "Big Daddy" of white wine grapes and one of the most widely planted in the world. It is suited to a wide variety of soils, though it excels in soils with a high limestone content as found in Champagne, Chablis, and the Côte D`Or.

Burgundy is Chardonnay`s spiritual home and the best White Burgundies are dry, rich, honeyed wines with marvelous poise, elegance and balance. They are unquestionably the finest dry white wines in the world. Chardonnay plays a crucial role in the Champagne blend, providing structure and finesse, and is the sole grape in Blanc de Blancs.

It is quantitatively important in California and Australia, is widely planted in Chile and South Africa, and is the second most widely planted grape in New Zealand. In warm climates Chardonnay has a tendency to develop very high sugar levels during the final stages of ripening and this can occur at the expense of acidity. Late picking is a common problem and can result in blowsy and flabby wines that lack structure and definition.

Recently in the New World, we have seen a move towards more elegant, better- balanced and less oak-driven Chardonnays, and this is to be welcomed.
