The Domaine Trapet Beblenheim Gewürztraminer is sourced from the estates own vineyards planted in the hills below the Vosges, where the climate is perfectly suited for this variety. A full-bodied, well-structured wine that is creamy with a powerful spicy floral aroma. The perfect wine to serve with foie gras, fairly spicy food or delicious apple desserts.

DOMAINE TRAPET
Andrée and Jean Louis Trapet of Gevrey Chambertin renown, took over Andrée’s parents vineyards in Alsace in 2002, inheriting generations of knowledge of the terroir and the style of wines. An only daughter with a profound affection for her local soil, she converted the domaine to biodynamic methods, adopting the same disciplines as they exercise in Burgundy. The estate comprises some of the best Grand crus vineyards in Alsace and the wines, like their Burgundy relatives, are all about finesse and elegance. They are characterised by an almost electric purity and minerality and are superbly versatile with challenging dishes.

The Grape
Gewürztraminer
Gewürztraminer is a high quality white grape which produces classic varietal wines in the Alsace region of France.

It is the second most widely planted grape in Alsace and the most widely planted in the Haut-Rhin where it is particularly well suited to the clay-rich soils found in the Vosges foothills. It is normally fermented dry and produces golden, medium to full-bodied wine with heady aromas of lychees, rose petals and white peaches.

It attains naturally high sugar levels far in excess of Riesling and this makes it ideal for sweet, late harvest wines. These can be unctuously sweet and luscious and the best can last for decades.

It is also planted in Germany, Austria and Alto Adige in Italy and to a lesser extent in Australia, New Zealand and California. Gerwürz means spice in German, although this pink-skinned grape tends to produce exotically perfumed rather than spice laden wines.
