DescriptionOur drip-irrigated vineyards at Apalta sit on the slopes of a mountain made of granite. This ruggedly beautiful place includes a protected ancient forest which has been calculated to reduce the carbon footprint of our operations to zero. We have braved the steep 45º slopes to plant grape varieties, in very high density, uncommon in Chile, such as Carignan, Grenache and Mourvèdre, with outstanding results. Heavy winter rains that would otherwise wash away all our hard work are naturally absorbed by cover plants between rows of vines, which also help to control potentially large yields in the vineyard. Natural, sustainable controls in all areas of our viticulture, and extremely low yields, make Apalta truly special.
